I believe his gas gauge is not reading correctly. Now, that is a die hard pump! So, what is the reason for this pump shorting out? What should I check for? I keep hearing stories about if you let your tank go dry, this could be the result of that! Any comments on that? My son's gas gauge was reading 1/4 tank when this incident occurred. After I separated the two wires, and tested the pump, it still works. That is why I don't like electric fuel pumps that are designed to run inside the gas tank. Well the picture that is in the Photo Bucket link below says it all.

Just what gummet are they talking about, and is that absolutely necessary? The Ford Company surely designed this Mustang with the intent for having it towed to them to make the repaires. Just how does it come off? Do I have to lower the tank a little and at the same time pull the tank away from the gas filler tube? I know there is mention of a grummet that has to be cut off and it must be replaced with a new grummet. It looks like it wants to come out from the side of the tank, however there is not enough room for that to happen. I removed the locking bolt, and tried pulling on the tube. The second hose is the gas filler hose or tube what ever it is called. Am I doing it right? I imagine the fittng at the top of the fuel pump assembly is of the same type. There are two plastic lips at the edge of the fitting which I squeezed on with all my finger strength and pulled out at the same time, however, it would not disconnect. Getting back to the main fuel line fitting. Any ideas on how I can get that remaining 5 gals of gas out. I tried to siphon the gas out through the filler tube with negative results. If I disconnect it at the fuel pump assembly, that means that I have to lower the tank first, to get room to work at the top. Not sure if I should disconnect it there, or at the very top, at the fuel pump assembly. It is located at the front center top edge of the fuel tank. The first one is the main fuel line that runs from the fuel tank to the engine compartment. I have almost all of the hoses disconnected except for two. Based on my last test with the fuel pump, I have decided to replace the fuel pump assembly.
